What a game, and I applaud Favre for his courage and will. The fact that Ahman Green gave me a win of my fantasy league was overshadowed by being struck by Favre's efforts.
I was just about to email Paul at the end of the game to suggest a post on this...but he was all over it.
Really inspiring. And, to top it off, it really is funny to see the Saints go down after such a valiant final play Sunday. Nothing Horn could do there (But as a Bills fan, it brought back the bad memory of Scott Norwood...).
paul-
you nailed this post my brother!
you could see in brett's eyes he was hurtin, ya know?
My 12 year old will never forget that, the day after his father died, Brett Favre: did his job and did it well during a personal crisis, put aside his own needs for a greater good, and stuck with his teammates. (..and played so brilliantly that said 12 year old, 56 points behind in the championship 'game' of their fantasy football league, pulled ahead to beat his uncle...)
He told me, as I tucked him into bed, that 'sometimes you have to put aside all the bad stuff and just go do your job, Mom'.
Words of wisdom....and a reminder that our children do indeed learn from the athletes of today. Today, he learned something good.
well put Lucy! nice life lesson
Wish I had Favre on my fantasy team. Instead I started the year with Kerry Collins and Rich Gannon, and ended it with Anthony Wright and Jessie Palmer leading me into the playoffs. I didn't even check the scores that week.
Hell of a game that was. I was glued to the set. Favre was a class act all the way.
Brett Favre has always been a model player, and last night was more proof of that. Hopefully, the kids of today remember what he did last night, and realize the Horn's of the NFL are idiots. It is always better to get attention for something positive that you did then something negative. Lucy's post was touching. Her kids will be like Favre as they see that he did the right thing, and also they have a good mom who probably wouldn't tolerate Horn-like behavior. I remember once when I was in high school, I scored the winning goal at the last game of the playoffs. The goalie of the other time started crying and in our teams celebration, we all started to chant "stop crying baby" or something childish like that. My dad was so pissed at what he saw, that he would not let me play the first game of the state championships because of what we did at the last game. Looking back now, he was right because when you do the right thing, or score or win then that should be good enough. No need to show boat or do something disrespectful. Favre doesn't have to do a routine (a la Horn) to bring attention to the fact that he is good, we know it because we watch him play.

Nicole Richie is such a jerk off. She can't stand the fact that she is the "ugly friend" that Paris totes around with her, so she says outrageous stuff for attention. She does it on that stupid Simple Life show, and now she is doing it at sports events. Nothing like saying that you want to fuck an alleged rapists while he is currently on trial for doing so. Is Mike Tyson on her fuck wish list this Christmas too? What an asshole...
As a lifelong Bears fan and season ticket holder for the past five years, I have a deep hatred for Favre. (For goodness sakes, the Bears have lost 20 of 24 to the Packers since he became their QB).
But today, after watching him last night, I can't say anything bad about him. Maybe I'm just in the holiday spirit. Hopefully, I'll snap out of it. :)
It's stuff like the Nicole Ritchie comment that makes PaulKatcher.com a must read. In the vein of the Brett Favre postings, I'm sure her dad is very proud of her.
As a 49er fan who has seen his team suffer at the hands of Brett Favre on many Sunday afternoons, I was happy to see him have a great game and to see his receivers absolutely refuse to let him have a bad one. Several of Favre's throws were "throw into double coverage like your name was Ryan Leaf" throws, but his receivers made them all good decisions.
The one thing that I notice about every post is that nobody has expressed shock or surprise at Favre's performance. I don't gamble on pro football very often, but the words "Brett Favre will play against the Raiders" should have been more than enough motivation to take the Packers and the spread.
The great ones don't need props. They earn them.
What more needs to be said?
Thanks, Cass- and as a matter of fact, mr. smarty-pants goalie has sat out a game or two for varied and sundry reasons- but never for the same reason, twice. :-) Bet you learned your lesson when your dad made you sit out, too.....
I live in Chicago, and have never been much of a Bears fan- never been to a game, even- but you can't live here and at least have some peripheral awareness of them. I'm pleasantly surprised that they are doing so well, and even though I feel like I should hate Favre because he's a Packer, I just can't do it. The best players in any sport seem to transcend their team, even as they define it.
your right lucy-
class is class
